A call to pause, refocus, and re-establish a connection with ourselves before the week envelops us. The start of Term 3 is the ideal moment to develop composure and clarity in the classroom and inside ourselves. Take a deep breath, and decide to start over with a purpose.
The Pause's Power
We frequently overlook the simple power of pausing in our haste to handle duties, plan lessons, and meet deadlines. Just one focused breath has the power to completely change our viewpoint. It's about being present, not about production or perfection. Our bodies receive a signal to relax, refocus, and reset when we take a deep breath and release it slowly.
Try doing a 60-second breathing exercise every morning this week. Close your eyes, take three deep breaths. It's a small act with a significant impact.
🌱 Resetting with Intention
Starting again is making a decision on how to go rather than deleting the past. This is your opportunity to make new goals, regardless of how chaotic or rewarding last term was. This term, what do you wish to feel more of?
- Calm and peaceful?
- Self-assurance and self-fulfilment?
- Good rapport with students and with colleagues at work?
Put it in writing. Make a "Mindful Intention Wall" where each person adds a word or phrase that expresses what they think the term will bring. This small custom creates a sense of belonging and empowers everyone to take charge of their emotional health.
What's the rationale?
Keep in mind that you don't have to run out of the gate as Term 3 progresses. Every day, you can take a thoughtful stroll, take a deep breath, and start over. This week is your chance to start over gracefully, whether you're a parent, teacher, or student.
Thus, inhale. Give up what was. And move calmly and clearly into the following phase.
