Pointe Larue Secondary Welcomes FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Team to Seychelles: A Celebration of Sport and Culture

As students and teachers at Pointe Larue Secondary were ready to welcome three of the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup teams to Seychelles, excitement was in the air. The competition is scheduled to take place from May 1–11, 2025. Italy, a nation with a significant beach football presence and a rich football history, was gladly welcomed by Pointe Larue Secondary on Friday, the 24th of April.


A Warm Welcome: Combining Sport and Tradition:

Students and teachers were holding flags that represented Italy, turning the arrival area at the airport into a lively centre of celebration. As the team came and was welcomed with applause and Italian music, the enthusiasm was evident.


Students sang an Italian song, which showcased a confluence of cultures. 
The welcoming gesture clearly touched the players, who took the time 
to engage with students, responded by taking pictures together. 


Apart from  Team Italy, our energetic teachers and our students arrived earlier at the airport, on Wednesday, the 23rd of April, to welcome Team Senegal, a dominant force in African beach soccer that brings a wealth of experience and a strong track record to the tournament. Their dynamic playstyle and tactical prowess make them formidable opponents.




And speaking of early arrival, at 6:30 am local time, our students and our teachers welcomed Team Paraguay on Monday, the 21st of April. Returning after the 2024 edition, they entered the competition with renewed vigour.





What is the rationale?
 
The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup participation of Pointe Larue Secondary served as evidence of the ability of sports to unite people, promote education, and celebrate cultural variety. Knowing that Seychelles was a part of an international athletic event that would be remembered for years to come gave the students a renewed sense of drive. Seychelles was poised to host the world tournament, and Pointe Larue Secondary had already established itself, demonstrating the mutually reinforcing influence of education, athletics, and cross-cultural interaction.

The atmosphere at Stad Popiler was electric yesterday, 03rd April 2025, as Pointe Larue Secondary School hosted its annual Sports Day. The event was a vibrant showcase of athletic prowess, school spirit, and unexpected triumphs that left everyone in attendance buzzing with excitement. A Vote for the Future: Pointe Larue Secondary Selects New SNYA Representative for 2025

As students participated in the yearly Seychelles National Youth Assembly (SNYA) election, democracy was in full force at Pointe Larue Secondary School. Students had a chance to choose their representative for the 2025 SNYA cohort, a forum where young voices from all around Seychelles contribute to conversations on national concerns, at this eagerly awaited event.  The election process demonstrated how eager young people are to take on leadership roles, make decisions, and influence the course of their school and community.
