Pointe Larue Secondary & Primary Celebrated Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday, which marks the start of Lent—
a 40-day season of fasting, prayer, and repentance in preparation for Easter—was observed by Pointe Larue Secondary students and staff on 5th March at St. John Bosco Church. The school community came together for a solemn yet profoundly meaningful ceremony that encouraged introspection and spiritual rejuvenation.

Scripture and Christian tradition go hand in hand with Ash Wednesday's significance. The Bible is filled with references to humility, fasting, and repentance. Wearing ashes and sackcloth was a typical way for people.
In the Old Testament, to show their grief and repentance. In the book of Jonah, for instance, the people of Nineveh sat in ashes and covered themselves with sackcloth in response to the prophet's exhortation (Jonah 3:6–10). God's mercy was shown to them as a result of their honest repentance. Likewise, the prophet Joel exhorted the Israelites to fast, cry, and mourn in order to turn back to God:
The Lord says, "Even now, return to me with all your heart, fasting, crying, and mourning."
The priest emphasized the significance of Lent as a period of introspection and Easter preparation. He exhorted the students to employ prayer, fasting, and deeds of charity to strengthen their relationship with God during this season. The distribution of ashes occurred after the homily. Staff/teachers applied ashes to each student's and school member's forehead. Everyone was reminded of their vocation to turn from sin and embrace a life of faith during this holy rite, which served as a time for introspection.
"Believe in the gospel and repent." (Mark 1:15)
